Active since 7 June, TE.R.R.A. is the digital portal introduced by Law 11/2024 (formerly the “Energy Decree”) that Terna has made available to national and local administrators, legislators and proponents for the consultation of strategic and relevant information on the Territory, Networks, Renewables and Storage.
Objectives of the portal
During the presentation of the portal on 22 May, Giuseppina Di Foggia, CEO and General Manager of Terna, underlined: “Today we are taking a new, fundamental step forward in our country’s energy transition path, confirming the strategic role that Terna plays. The TE.R.R.A. Portal creates a substantial basis for efficient and sustainable territorial planning, providing transparent and accessible information on the current and future status of network and storage plants, on connection requests and on environmental, landscape and cultural constraints that fall on the national territory.” The Portal was created with the aim of promoting maximum transparency on data and information, promoting rationalisation and optimisation actions in the planning of electricity infrastructures and supporting the stakeholders involved. Terna offers continuous monitoring and progress reports on the grid and the electricity system, contributing to transparency and operational efficiency.
Platform content
A vast wealth of information is already available on the TE.R.R.A. platform, including the status of connection requests (about 6,600 renewable plants, storage systems and consumer users with a connection solution accepted by the proponents) and the geographical location of about 40,000 plants in operation. This demonstrates the constant commitment to data quality and the digitization of processes and systems. Through navigable multilayer maps, it is possible to observe the necessary development interventions, those planned, the existing power lines, the master data of the plants in operation and the progress of new connection initiatives.
Digital Evolution & Innovation
TE.R.R.A. marks a decisive advance in the management of energy infrastructures, providing cutting-edge tools for efficient and sustainable planning. Digital evolution is central to Terna’s 2024-2028 Business Plan, with around €2 billion of the total €16.5 billion dedicated to technological and digital innovation initiatives, to ensure an increasingly secure and resilient grid. The new integrated digital platform, part of the company’s Twin Transition strategy, will improve the coordination and effectiveness of territorial planning, accelerating the authorisation processes crucial for the network of the present and the future.
